Dealing with Depression…a new project page and section

moonDealing with the blues

Anyone visiting this blog over the last few months will have noticed that I have an interest in how it is best to deal with depression. It is a difficult subject for sufferers and carers to talk about because of the nature of the illness and because of how such conditions are viewed within society, but in all of my posts I have encouraged more openness about depression.

Why so, because I firmly believe that it is only by confronting such issues that progress can occur, and who better to assist in such a process than those who are affected, directly, or indirectly themselves.

From such an idea this project, Dealing with the blues, was born. I have already created a category called dealing with Depression, so as to highlight the work I have posted as regards this area, and now I would like to go one step further

As  a long term depressive who has managed to survive and be a part of an ongoing 20 yr happy marriage, I would like to invite all bloggers who suffer from depression to contribute to a project support group-click here for page access through which other sufferers can came to terms with their condition. I would suggest that there is no requirement for personal details to be released, and although I will be monitoring any incoming posts for third party of scamming involvement, contributors may, in time, be granted the rights of a contributor , or even a full author, should such a desire arise

first stepSo it is that I offer the chance for you, as a depressive, carer, or just an interested party, to join me in my aim of helping others through what we all know can be very difficult times

Anyone interested in helping out with this project, anyone out there with tips or experiences that might ease the pain that all of us depressive know only too well?

I truly hope so, as it is only by sharing our experiences that cures or at least coping mechanisms can be found, but I also know that it is a sensitive area, so if you wish to contact me in a more private fashion, please feel free to use the contact form below

To kick things off, I leave you with a survivors tale of surviving depression. My own video may well appear quite soon

An overall message for this project.

There is no easy answer, no promise of guaranteed success or resolution, but time heals, you are not alone, and yes, there are always those around you who want to help you, who can help you, and who truly understand. You are not, and never need to be,  alone

  1. I am a psychologist in Houston, TX. I would love to hear your opinion of my new self-help resource for individuals struggling with depression:

    • Hi Rune, my aplogies for the long, very long delay in answering your comment. An awful lot has been happening in my life during the last 3 -4 months, but that is a poor excuse for my tardiness. As regards your self help resource, I have studied it with much interest, and I would say it certainly should prove very usefull. A couple of points you might like to consider though.

One or twice you talk of a logical approach to dealing with issues, and your 15 point guide has a strong logical sequence. This is good but, in my humble experience logic, as regards mental illness, from the sufferers point of view, has little relevance to the world within which they are in. As a depressive you hear the logic of all those around you, and you understand the various corrective pathways laid before you, but all to often you cannot take it on board, let alone act upon such voices with any conviction.

Secondly, do you have a section with your resource guide for those who are living with a mental health sufferer? I’m not an expert in mental health matters by any means, but I know that living with a depressive is all too often a very painful and debilitating experience, and all to often no help or recgnition seems to come your way. In my own instance, for example, nobody could get through to me when, all to often, I was immersed in a depressive world of my own. People, like my mother, wanted to help me, and despartely tried to help me, but they couldn’t penetrate the gloom.

A good site and a valuable resource though, well done
