Stop, look, listen, smell, do nothing,….enjoy

where too now---who cares---just chill

The Passionate Mans Pilgramage

Give me my scallop shell of quiet,
My staff of faith to walk upon,
My scrip of joy, immortal diet,
My bottle of salvation,
My gown of glory, hope’s true gage,
And thus I’ll take my pilgrimage.
Spring is once more upon us, but how many of us are taking time to stop, look, listen; smell; do nothing, and enjoy
“We haven’t got the time”
we tell ourselves, and anyone else who may be within earshot
“We’ve too many people to see, to talk to, and to liaise with!”
we continue
“and anyway,we know about the spring, we’ve seen it all before!”
Well some of this is true. Time belongs to no-one, it is just there. We do lead increasingly busy and noisy lives, and yes, the spring does come about annually, but, apart from our childhood; if we are lucky; have we really seen it all before, and how accurate is our recollection of all the things we have seen?
Like many others around me I have a busy job and, working all day long I am surrounded by noise. From the crash of metal trays to the eternal tap-tap chatter and clatter demands of our customers, the noise is relentless, but when the day is finished I feel a sense of joy as, when I leave work, I walk outside of the store.
Why so, because I can stop and look around me. I can listen to distant bird song, smell the evening air, and, if I so please, do nothing, as for a short passage of time, my time is my own.
I suspect we all have such time in our lives, but even if we can see it, how many of us consciously or subconsciously take time out to just absorb what surrounds us on all sides?
So it is that I lay down a simple challenge
Stop what you think you ought to be doing, put away your phone or Ipod/tablet, and, just for one moment, turn of your car’s engine and step outside
Now don’t think, don’t rationalise, and don’t begin to mentally list all the jobs that are still lined up ready and waiting
Now stop, look, listen, smell, do nothing, and enjoy, and to aid you in such a challenge I leave you with a couple of video’s below. Life is too short to wreck it with eternal clatter, so why not take out a few moments to enjoy
Have fun folks,  sweet dreams
